A contemporary home in the western Lake District has just been given the Andura treatment to guard against the marine environment of its coastal setting.
Horama House was a new build project by David Friend just over ten years ago when he bought a plot of land on the Duddon Estuary at Millom. The luxury 4,200 sq.ft. property boasts six bedrooms on the ground floor and four reception rooms on the first floor to enjoy the panoramic views of the estuary and the Lakeland Fells. It also features a central tower with staircase leading to a stunning roof garden.
David Friend turned to Andura Registered applicator, Anchor Coatings when the original exterior finish failed due to water penetration from the harsh local marine environment.
Before applying the external coating, Anchor Coatings had to remove and rebuild 1,100 sq.ft. of ‘blown’ render to establish a sound base and properly prepare the substrate for the Andura coating. Some 3,400 sq.ft. of the property’s exterior walls were sprayed with Andura’s Pro-Flex Ultimate high performance coating in polar white. George Campbell, Managing Director of Anchor Coatings explains, “We also specified Andura’s Pro-Clear to be applied on the coping stones on the roof as water was getting in and de-laminating the previous exterior finish. We completed the project in 14 days and the result is an excellent maintenance-free coating.”
The owner, David Friend is delighted with the results too. “I’m over the moon. The Anchor Coatings team were absolutely ace – the family firm were extremely hard working and efficient and were very flexible in dealing with the variable weather conditions working longer hours when necessary. They certainly kept disruption to a minimum which is very important as we are a B & B business.”
David Friend was convinced that Andura’s Pro-Flex Ultimate was the right product for his property, when he was given a demonstration of the product’s permeability in a miniature water tank. It showed how the Andura coating is water resistant from the outside, yet still allows water vapour to breath out of the substrate.
