NEW TANSUN RADIANT HEATING PANELS ARE INNOVATION IN HEATING STUDENT HOMES

For all owners of privately owned residences, the comfort of those who will be living there should be a main priority. Choosing a heating system can be tough, especially as owners will want a solution that is cost-effective, stylish and convenient whilst creating a warm and comfortable environment.

What is the benefit of electric heating in student accommodation?

Electric heating can allow the proprietor to manage energy usage and cut heating costs substantially. With domestic and commercial properties in mind, heating experts Tansun have recently designed new radiant panels that are discrete and unobtrusive and can blend into any environment. Ideal for housing associations and student accommodation, Tansun’s radiant heating panels provide even heat distribution to gently warm people and objects before targeting the surrounding air. The panels boast advanced heating technology which is designed to be environmentally friendly and remarkably energy efficient and where energy conversion rates are around 98%, making them the most cost effective option when heating a building with a high volume of residents where spaces will always be unused.

Why is radiant electric heating the ‘go-to’ heating solution?

It is safe and reliable. Tansun radiant panels are designed with a number of benefits which include providing instant, healthy, comfortable and gentle heat, ensuring safety and reliability, and are silent making them perfect for noise-sensitive environments. Developed to be highly energy efficient, the panels are cost effective and can save approximately 30-70% in heating costs. They come with a full five-year warranty.

How does it work?

Allowing students to warm each of their rooms at the flick of a switch, Tansun radiant panels produce heat that is similar to the sun and instead of warming the air like conventional heaters they heat the people and objects directly in their paths. The purpose of the electric design is not only great for the environment as the rays emitted are easily absorbed by the items in the room, but as each panel is standalone each room can be heated as and when required. Rooms can be heated quickly and easily and no energy is wasted providing heat to unoccupied areas, and temperature levels can be adjusted using the Tansun thermostat.

Each heater is easy to install as there is no pipework and can be wall or ceiling mounted to save floor space. No regular maintenance or annual inspections are required as electric heating eliminates any hidden maintenance costs.

Where can they be used?

Many rooms can benefit from radiant panel heating including living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, garages and conservatories. There are many commercial applications for the new panel heaters too such as restaurants, offices, salons, hotels, retail and healthcare.

Three panel heaters have been developed by Tansun in different sizes to cater for numerous areas. The Iridium Series 600 (300W), 900 (610W) and 1200 (785W), are lightweight and extra slim radiant heating panels and combine advanced heating technology and a neutral design of white or black finish to blend in with any decor.

Tansun can create the panels in most RAL colour options to suit all environments. This simple feature can be important for the specification sector to help blend in with particular environments and colour schemes.

The Tansun Digital Thermostat helps to control the radiant heating panels easily to maximise their potential and save energy and money. Temperature levels can be adjusted based on heating requirements to heat each individual room separately. Designed to a high standard, the Tansun Thermostat will ensure a cosy atmosphere wherever a heater is installed.

All of Tansun’s products are made in the UK and are designed using premium components. The company has been established for 35 years and pioneered the concept of radiant electric heaters alongside Philips technology. Tansun has the largest range of commercial, industrial and domestic radiant heaters in the world, providing maintenance-free, safe and healthy radiant heaters for many different types of heating applications.

SENTINEL SYSTEMS SUPPORTS LOCAL COLLEGE IN STUDENT CAREERS SCHEME

Gloucestershire-based commercial vehicle safety manufacturer Sentinel Systems has continued to support Cirencester College for another year by sponsoring a student recognition award in the college’s annual awards. The company has been working with the college for the past few years to support the local talent in students and encourage them into internships and careers.low res

Titled ‘The Sentinel Systems Ltd Award for Excellence in the Workplace’, the award set up by the company recognises the performance and contribution of students taking part in apprenticeships in the finance, business, IT or sport sectors.

The awards ceremony took place at the college and the Sentinel Systems award was given to a student who participated in an Advanced Marketing Apprenticeship.

David Paulson, Managing Director of Sentinel Systems is on the board of the careers academy at the college. He commented, “As a company we think that it is important for students to recognise their talent and we are very supportive of this. We have introduced the Sentinel Systems award for high performing apprentices and interns in connection with Cirencester College to reward this talent and hope that it will inspire and encourage students and young adults to join these great schemes. They are very beneficial for young people as they help them gain the knowledge and confidence they need to start a career.”

Aside from the awards sponsorship, Sentinel Systems supports Cirencester College in its summer internship programme by recruiting students to work with the company. In the past, Sentinel has recruited Ed Bowden, a previous winner of the Sentinel Systems award, who worked with the company’s IT department during the summer programme and continued to work with the company full time in his gap year. Ed still returns from his university on a regular basis to provide part time support for the company and continue the great work he started during his internship.

Sentinel has also recently employed Jamie Bonthron, a Sales and Marketing Support apprentice from Cirencester College who is working with the company four days a week towards his qualification. Jamie assists with all sales and marketing activities including the development of the company website and sales tools and co-ordinating the company’s PR programme.

To continue its support of the internship programme run by the college, Sentinel Systems will be hiring another summer intern this year to help provide them with vital knowledge and experience that they can carry forward with their career. Last year Sentinel Systems was awarded the ‘Award for the Best Employer Contribution’ by the College for its commitment and work with the careers programme.

Commenting again, David Paulson said “We very much enjoy having students working with us as they bring in new ideas and knowledge of current trends that we can use in our work and customer approach. Our team are very welcoming to them and help them in every way possible to achieve some great experience and work for their career portfolio. We are sure that will we continue supporting this scheme well into the future.”

CHILDREN ENCOURAGED INTO NATURE FOR STRONGER IMMUNE SYSTEMS

The general health of children could be greatly improved with increased exposure to nature, scientific studies have found. Due to modern indoor-based, ultra-clean living children’s immune systems aren’t as robust or strong as they are when exposed to natural bacteria while exploring the outdoors and playing with animals.Children in Ntaure low res

Wildlife World aims to encourage children back into nature with a range of innovative wildlife products suitable for school and at home that are both educational and easy to use. Combining nature expertise and over 15 years of experience designing and manufacturing sustainably sourced wildlife products, Wildlife World hopes to re-ignite children’s fascination with the natural world to increase their understanding of its importance with improved children’s health being one of many secondary benefits.

There has been a notable increase in the number of children suffering with autoimmune diseases such as asthma and hay fever. It is widely believed that the cause of this is over-cleaning and under exposure to dirt and natural bacteria early on in life leading to allergies developing as the immune system hasn’t learnt how to control everyday invaders such as dust and pollen.

By encouraging children to engage with nature at an early age they are exposed to natural bacteria that will help develop their immunity to everyday pathogens, in turn reducing their chances of developing allergies. It also helps to strike the right balance between ‘screen time’ and outdoor exercise.

Wildlife World has developed an innovative educational range that is suited for classroom based teaching as well as taking the classes outside to interact with insects and animals and learn about the habitats and their importance in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. The Pyramid Insect Hotel is a large wooden structure standing 1.2 metres tall that includes a series of habitats that attract and harbour a variety of mini beasts and beneficial insects. The design cleverly incorporates an integrated solar lamp that attracts moths, as well as professional cardboard nesting and viewing tubes, allowing for easy bee management, and removable inspection cassettes to monitor overwintering butterflies, moths and insect cocoons.

Other products in the Wildlife World educational range include Trail Packs that focus on engaging youngsters to explore nature in a variety of ways. The Trail Packs are available in various stages: ecology, hands-on learning, study/learning & ultimate, providing an outdoor wildlife experience for all ages and levels of learning. The packs contain nesting habitats and feeders for beneficial insects, bees, butterflies, birds and small mammals with packets of wildflower seeds to ensure an attractive wildlife friendly environment is produced. The various feeders and nesters, which include hedgehog homes, bird feeder stations, interactive bee nesters, can be scattered around the outdoor area and using the extensive range of guides from Wildlife World, children can follow the trail and learn about the ecosystem first hand. The more advanced packs include wildlife cameras systems that allow nature to be studied undisturbed and provide another dimension to the children’s learning and understanding of wildlife.

Wildlife World also has a range of box sets that are suitable for using at home. The Minibugs sets are small functioning habitats specifically designed for children to use and are available in four different sets for bugs, bees, butterflies and ladybirds. Each set is supplied with an activity book that children can follow as their chosen habitats are established. The nature specialists also supply a Birdy Bites kit that allows kids to create cakes and feed shapes out of a ‘no-cook’ recipe to encourage birds into their gardens.

SURREY SCHOOLS ENSURE THERE IS NO OBSTACLE IN EDUCATION

Schools in Surrey have installed disability aids designed and manufactured by Swallow EMP to ensure all students have access to the schools’ facilities. The powered stair climbers will allow students at the secondary schools to navigate stairs to reach classrooms and provide them with quick emergency evacuation ability and are an economical alternative compared to elevators and custom wheelchair lifts.Supertrax and Stairmate image low res

The Super Tracs supplied to one of the schools provide portable platform lifts to allow easy movement of powered wheelchair users while the other school installed two Stair Mates that attach to manual wheelchairs as a powered wheel chair lift and stair climber. Both products are portable and can be moved to various facilities easily ensuring the student can use the aids throughout their educational career.

Fiona Jackson, Moving and Handling Advisor for Surrey schools, Strategic Supertrax and Stairmate image1 low resRisk Management Team, commented, “I am part of a team that is dedicated to ensuring education is accessible for all students across Surrey, regardless of their physical abilities. The Swallow EMP products enable our students who are wheelchair users to safely navigate stairs and fully participate in all aspects of classroom based learning alongside their peers. Not only do they allow those individuals to retain a level of independence but they ensure easy and fast evacuation of all pupils should an emergency occur. We are extremely pleased with the performance of the products.”

The Super Trac from Swallow EMP is a portable platform lift that allows the easy movement of powered and non-powered wheelchairs and some mobility scooters up and down stairs. There are two models available and the powerful dual motors can carry 200kg and 230kg respectively. The integrated tie down straps and seat belt keep the wheelchair firmly in place when manoeuvring. The students can safely use the Super Tracs with minimal assistance required, and the suSupertrax and Stairmate image2 low resbstantial battery life means constant charging isn’t necessary.

Similarly the Stair Mate is a portable piece of lifting equipment that allows larger passengers to traverse stairs with the guidance of a smaller attendant due to the powerful motors and one touch button operating system. Suitable for most manual wheelchairs, there are three models of the Stair Mate which can carry up to 160kg while eliminating manual handling and reducing the risk of back injury. The innovative design uses caterpillar tracks for maximum grip to be stable and self-supporting and a safety break system to ensure the users are secure and the movement process is risk free. Compact storage is made simple with detachable support handles for easy transport and a key switch restricts use to authorised persons only, ensuring the equipment is not subject to abuse through the exuberant school environment.

The disability aids offered by Swallow EMP are effective alternatives to conventional wheelchair lifts and elevators, and require much less space and minimal installation disruption. The Swallow EMP products such as the Super Trac and Stair Mate are much more cost effective to install and entail little maintenance costs while being portable allows them to be transported with the student to accommodate the mobility needs throughout their school career.
